Working 1926 Western Electric D76869 A1 Telephone Picture and Description:
For auction is this RARE Western Electric Model D76869 A1 Round based telephone. The D76869 A1 was a prototype cradle telephone and was only used in Western Electric offices prior to the introduction of the first production cradle phone and the last round based phone to ever be produced the 102 B1. It has a rare seamless E1 receiver with a working though somewhat weak “Bullet Transmitter.” It has the correct, for the D76869, 2HB dial. The porcelain numbers on the notch-less dial face show little wear. It has cloth cords. And a new cloth line cord which is equipped, with a modern RJ11 jack that you can plug into any modern phone receptacle. It also has the correct side-tone 534A Subset/Ringer w/ rare wood mounting board. The back of the neck of the phone is stamped “D76869” The front of the neck is stamped “Western Electric Made In USA / Patents Approved In USA The side of the dial is stamped “Western Electric Made In U.S.A. Pat In USA XXXXXXXX.” The fingerstop is stamped “2HB” The receiver handle is marked “TRADE MARK Western Electric REG U.S. PAT OFF. PAT IN U.S.A. - E1 - Made in U.S.A.” Not many of these phones are left since most, over the last 85 years, have been discarded and are gone forever. This is a phone you can actually make and receive calls on! I last used it 8 months ago. I have since gone wireless and can’t guarantee that it still works since I could not test it before the auction. This is a great piece to display among your other collectables of early Americana, yet so very nice you will want to display it a small table and use it for everyday calls! A beautiful telephone, you will adore!!
